1. Introductory Rites

The rites preceding the Liturgy of the Word—namely the Entrance, Greeting, Act of Penitence, Kyrie, Gloria, and Collect—are a preparation for listening to God’s Word and celebrating the Eucharist worthily.

2. Liturgy of the Word

The readings from Sacred Scripture (two on weekdays, three on festive days), homily, Profession of Faith, and Prayer of the Faithful recall that Christ is present through his Word in the community that participates in the rite.
